Category: Summer Camp

Science Sleuths (Entering Grades VPK-6th) CLOSED)

Does your child love Science and Engineering? Does she love to build? Does he have an endless imagination? Mad scientists will explore different aspects of science as they become familiar with the science in their everyday world. Through aerodynamics they will experiment with a variety of flight challenges. They will learn how physics can be fun as they build roller coaster designs and marble mazes. An understanding of how mixtures create shocking results will be developed as they study chemistry through erupting volcanoes, baking soda rockets and more. Campers will become familiar with the critical role robotics plays in their world as they use LEGO robotics kits to design and program bots to complete simple tasks and solve real-world problems. Campers will wrap up the week of fun exploring gooey, ooey, icky creations and more.

LEGO Creation Camp (Entering Grades VPK-6th) (CLOSED)

Bricks bricks everywhere! Girls and boys will be presented with LEGO challenges to create both stationary and robotic LEGO creations that will require them to think critically, explore, collaborate and problem solve. This camp is all LEGO all the time with a twist! Teachers will begin each day with a LEGO challenge which each student will share with the group. How many different solutions are there? They will work to build various structures, recreate famous buildings and works or art and learn through the use of these amazing bricks. This camp centers around students individual interests with both independent and teamwork.

Minecraft Education: A-maz-ing Mazes  (Entering Grades 1st-8th)  (CLOSED)

Scientific American declared, "...not only is Minecraft immersive and creative, but it is an excellent platform for making almost any subject area more engaging." Enter a world of rules, parameters, levels and goals that require hard work, intense thinking, teamwork and problem solving skills. AAALC uses this popular game to provide an academic setting for students. Campers will take a trip that carries them through various mazes, ultimately creating their own as they complete challenges that require them to think critically and plan ahead. This camp will be a week filled with science, technology, engineering and math skills via an a-maze-ing format!

Movie Making Magic (Entering Grades 3rd -8th) (CLOSED)

Are you creative, love LEGO or other similar items and like to make your own movies? This week campers will express their creativity while becoming movie producers, using LEGO bricks, mini-figures, and movie-maker software to develop stories. Campers will learn stop motion movie making as they create their very own animated movie by writing a script, creating a storyboard, developing characters, filming and editing. Campers can choose between clay or other mediums instead of using LEGO. Students will also be introduced to green-screen technology and experiment with related components.

Pioneer Days: Vet Cadet (Entering Grades K-6th)  (OFF SITE PALM CITY FARM) (CLOSED)

The Vet Cadet Camp has been developed for children who are interested in veterinary medicine, animal care and husbandry or just plain love animals and science! Campers will learn through hands-on activities with both live animals and models depending on the activity, as they use stethoscopes to listen to the heart and lungs, diagnose and treat injuries or illness, give injections, read medicine labels and more. Campers will receive their own Vet Scrub Shirt and create a memory book of photos and research as they work with different farm animals each day. This camp is held OFF SITE at a large farm located in Palm City. The address and drop off details will be provided to registered campers by March 30 via email. Note: Please consider registration carefully if your child has serious allergies to animals, insects or other things that may prevent them from enjoying this experience.
