June 22-26: Buggin' Out, Gross Science, Minecraft & Stop Motion Movie Making

Buggin’ Out (CLOSED)
(Entering PreK/K-2nd)

Campers will enjoy a week full of STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math as they learn how important insects and bugs are to the world. They will examine the creepy, the crawly, the silly and the strong as they observe, explore and compare. Young entomologists will understand the ecology, classification, behavior, life cycle, population and physiology of insects and bugs. Be careful! Campers may come home with a few new pets.

Gross Science (CLOSED)
(Entering PreK-8th Grade)

Can you see the germs that grow when we don’t brush our teeth or wash our hands? Do you know how bugs protect themselves? Campers should expect a week of icky, sticky, gooey, slimy, dripping, digging while handling some truly gross science. Beware of blood curdling ews and groaning uggs as we get dirty discovering the disgusting, albeit fascinating, science that surrounds us!  

Minecraft Education: Parkour (CLOSED)
(Entering 1st-8th Grade)

Scientific American declared, "...not only is Minecraft immersive and creative, but it is an excellent platform for making almost any subject area more engaging." Enter a world of rules, parameters, levels and goals that require hard work, intense thinking, teamwork and problem solving skills. AAALC uses this popular game to provide an academic setting for students. Campers will take a trip that carries them along a route with various obstacles and paths. Jumping, climbing, running and other methods of movement will be key to discovering the way out. This camp will be a week filled with science, technology, engineering and math skills with surprised along the way!

Stop Motion Animation Brick Camp (CLOSED)
Lights, Camera, and Action!
(Entering 3rd-8th Grade)

Are you creative, love LEGOs and like to make your own movies? This week campers will express their creativity while becoming movie producers. They will use LEGO bricks, mini-figures, and movie- maker software. They will develop stories with LEGO figures, use a green-screen backgrounds, and digital cameras, and webcams. Campers will be able to save their projects on a USB drive to share with family and friends.  Get ready to direct your very own stop motion animated movie. Writers, directors and producers, ages 8 and up, will produce their own movie by:  writing a script, creating a storyboard, developing characters, filming and editing. (Campers can choose between clay or other mediums instead of using LEGO.)
 

Important Notice: Camps fill up quickly. If registration options aren’t open for specific selections, then they are not available. Contact 341-1400 to be placed on a Waiting List. Cancellations requested more than two weeks prior to camp will incur a $35 cancellation fee. Cancellations within two weeks of camp may not be refunded unless there is a camper on the Waiting List. A $35 cancellation fee will still be applied. Extended Day is available by calling the office at 341-1400 to request to be placed on the list. There is an additional $5 charge for each day. Regular camp hours for students entering 1st-8th grade are from 9:00am-3:30pm with Extended Day services offered from 8:30am-5:15pm. PreK/K student hours differ slightly.
